TVOTR

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around TV On The Radio’s new album, Dear Science,.  I can’t figure out where I stand.  Somewhere beyond “I like it” and not quite to “It’s amazing.”

I’m worried it’s their Weekend In The City, Bloc Party’s sophomore effort that featured a few great songs and a lot of clunkers that didn’t seem so bad at first.  I think it’s beyond that, but I could see myself growing old with half of it fast.

A big step in a new direction, this album throws in a ton of glitches and dance beats, throwing the ambience of the past out the window (again: parallel to Weekend).  ”Dancing Choose” could be a Bloc Party song.  ”Golden Age” could be a Prince song.  ”Family Tree” could be a Coldplay or National song.  All of them are simply great.

You can hear “Dancing Choose” and “Golden Age” at their Myspace page.
